Chicago Collections: A "Game Changer" for Collaboration Among Libraries, Archives, and Museums
Michelle Frisque; Scott Walter, (Chicago Public Library; DePaul University)
Chicago Collections is a unique consortium of 35+ libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, and community and corporate partners that have collaborated over the past 5 years to lead new initiatives in library collaboration and community engagement. This presentation highlights the ways in which this new approach to collaboration around discovery, access, and use of primary source materials has generated new opportunities for collection building, digital initiatives, public services, and engagement with community partners and programs.

Large-scale collection management: the challenges, the opportunities, the strategies
Jennifer A. Maddox Abbott, (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)
This presentation will explore challenges that large-scale collection management must consider, including space, cost, and time constraints; preservation and metadata factors; and issues related to perception. In addition, several large-scale collection management opportunities will be shared, using the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as an example, including high-density storage, shared print initiatives, large-scale digitization, and deduplication efforts. And, finally, strategies to ensure libraries continue to address challenges and opportunities in the future will be shared.
